Mackenzie pipeline report online December 30, 2009

As another pipeline proposal comes to the headlines in Canada, aboriginal groups and communities in the Northwest Territories of Canada continue to ponder the idea and possible outcomes of this environmentally destructive opportunity.

Source video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxiT64a3_Nk

CBC News released that a report by the Joint Review Panel is set to be released later today which provides analysis of all sides of this proposed venture by the Makenzie Gas Project including "the socio-economic and environmental impacts" of the project.
"The report has been anxiously awaited by the proponents of the proposed pipeline, which would run more than 1,200 kilometres through the Northwest Territories' Mackenzie Valley to the Alberta boundary."

With names such as Conoco, Shell and Exxon attached to this massive pipeline project Canada need only wait for September and the final decision to be made by the National Energy Board. However, a review that "was only expected to take 10 months" ended up taking almost six years to complete due to heavy environmental stress this project will put on the already sensitive Canadian north.

The missing millions, Royal Canadian Mint scandal

Mathematics, one of the most rudimentary skills every human will have to learn one way or another over their lifetime. After the release of reports this morning and a whopping "$1.3 million in audits", one might say the Canadian Mint needs to take a trip back to third grade again and pay attention.

Royal Canadian Mint executives will not get their bonus pay for last year after investigations into how millions of dollars' worth of the precious metal was lost revealed it had never gone missing.

Source: thestar.com

Once questioned, management found many avenues to cover up for the missing millions blaming the loss largely on the banner year for the gold market and an excessive amount of slag, or gold by-product. Reviews released from the Crown on Monday reported that, in regards to the impeding discrepancy that at least a few of the missing millions never even left the Mint and was simply miscounted.

The great Canadian gold heist has turned out to be a $15.3 million combination of bad counting, bad cleaning and sales of gold slag below market value.

Source: thestar.com
Changes are now being implemented at the Mint to prevent similar issues for occurring. Although the actual reported loss was a reported $7 million less that initially expected, the fact of the matter still stands, how did almost a quarter of a million dollars be miscounted counted by the Canadian Mint?

Will Canada grant Lennikov the Christmas gift of Freedom?

Source Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-OQ11tHeo8

"Two B.C. members of Parliament invoked the spirit of Christmas Sunday as they called for the government to back down and allow former KGB agent Mikhail Lennikov to stay in Canada."
Mikhail Lennikov is a name that has become well known in British Columbia and Canada recently.  Unfortunately, his fame has come from the announcement of deportation which sent him to the confines and safety of a Vancouver church.

A KGB agent over 20 years ago, Lennikov admitted to Canada upon his initial arrival of doing clerical work and translations for the Russian agency.  Immigration Canada gave the man a student Visa in 1997 and allowed him to live here with his family ever since.  No one had a problem with an admitted KGB agent then.  After September, 2001, Immigrations laws were reevaluated in Canada and Lennikov’s future in this country became questionable.

This man was given a fresh start in this country by a governmental body of humans whose ancestors most likely also came to this country as immigrants, for one reason or another.  To later take it all back and say “…you’re family can stay. However, seeing as you were a Russian spy over 20 years ago and you have been behaving yourself in Canada ever since, you can’t.  Go back to Russia, and a fate unknown!” That just is not fair!  I wonder how many US spies, or Japanese, Chinese, Romanian or maybe German spies, for that matter, are living in Canada.  I bet they didn’t admit to their prior ‘work experience’ on their immigration applications though.

Source Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2ItnpSFdB4

Considering the basis for the founding of our great country, would you not think that these Government offices run by people who were most likely born to a family who most likely did not originate from Canada, who immigrated here, they should give Lennikov a break.  It’s not like the guy is walking into a grocery store and shooting up the place.  Unless this seemingly peaceful and calm man gives Canada reason to revoke his stay in the country or it is eminently foreseen he may cause harm to Canada and/or its people, let the man go home for dinner with his family.

Wasn’t it Canada that put those plane hijackers that terrorized that dreary morning of September 11 through their flight school and training?  Canada needs to stop dwelling on the past and look forward to the future and the face the real problems that threaten Canada, its people and the generations to come.  Let Mikhail Lennikov go home to his life and celebrate Christmas with his family.

Wake up call for Hollywood, Brittany Murphy dies at 32

Sadly, it has been reported today that Hollywood sweetheart, Brittany Murphy passed away this morning at age 32 from unconfirmed causes.  A star of popular movies such as Clueless with Alicia Silverstone, 8 Mile with rapper Eminem, Just Married aside Ashton Kutcher and Uptown Girls with Dakota Fanning, Brittany will be greatly missed by Hollywood, her many fans and movie watchers all over the world.

According to CBC News, “…Cedars-Sinai Medical Center spokeswoman Sally Stewart said Murphy died at 10:04 a.m. local time on Sunday. She did not divulge a cause of death or any other details…”  First reports came from the television show TMZ who were the first to learn of the reported 911 call from Murphy’s husband.  TMZ has also been reported saying that call had been placed to 911 Dispatch after she was found unconscious in the shower after experiencing a cardiac arrest.

Pop star basher Perez Hilton, almost immediately reported on the incident in his self named blog saying,“…The paramedics declared Murphy had gone into full cardiac arrest upon their arrival and immediately administered CPR at the scene and continued to try and revive Brittany in the ambulance…”

Most recent reports are still call causing of death as unconfirmed and surely no one will know until autopsy results are in.  Regardless of cause of death, the death of Brittany Murphy is an incredible loss for the future of Hollywood and everyone that close to her.  In the following photo collection, PHOTOS: A Look Back at Brittany Murphy’s Career, OK Magazine provides a slide show examining Brittany’s career and life and showcases this beautiful lady in her light.

A town united, brings Lindhout home for the holidays

"Back in Alberta, a transformed Amanda Lindhout thanks all who worked to end her Somalia ordeal."

Only a few weeks after the release of Amanda Lindhout and Nigel Brennan from their captivity in the hands of Somalian kidnappers, pictures have been released of a smiling Amanda finally safely at home in front of her family Christmas tree.

Once word got out to the public of the kidnapping and ransom demands, many feared for the pairs safe return.  According the The Star, during the time of the pairs captivity the family felt the internet to be one of their worst enemies as they did not want any information on their efforts at home to be made available to the captors.

"Fundraisers were held, but people learned of them only by word-of-mouth. Local businesses donated items for auctions that were always silent. Only a few knew how much was raised and no one asked questions about how much was needed."

Little did we know that while the world wondered, one small town in Alberta, Canada was secretively launching a massive silent fundraiser in hopes of raising the money requested by the captors.

"One government source said the price for Lindhout's release once dropped down to $28,000 but before the Brennan and Lindhout families could get that amount to the kidnappers, the price suddenly soared again to $250,000."

Just in time for the holidays, in relation to every thing else going on in the world at the moment, this story of people uniting together for one purpose is such a fresh breathe of air.

May this Christmas and holiday season be exceptional for Amanda, her family and the town of Sylvan, Alberta.

Newest Okanagan Wildlife post: 5 tips to avoiding skiing injuries

Good evening everyone,

I just finished another article this evening and wanted to let you know 5 tips to avoiding skiing injuries is live at Helium and Okanagan Wildlife
"With the rising popularity of winter sports and skiing in the last century injuries related to skiing, snowboarding and the winter cold are extremely common and often overlooked.  Five steps can be taken to avoid injuries while enjoying a day of skiing up on the hill and help to keep skiing a pleasurable experience for any beginner.
1.  Proper instruction.
The number one tip for avoiding injuries while skiing is to have some general idea about what you are supposed to be doing!  If you are a beginner, it is a great idea to inquire about  lessons to get you started. Most ski areas and facilities offer introductory courses and ongoing lessons with registered and trained ski instructors that will help anyone on their way to comfortably cruising down the slopes.
2.  Warm up, especially in the cold air..."

Now Public: Tiger Woods Steroid Rumors and Dr. Anthony Galea

In regards to earlier reports of new allegations towards our not so 'tigerific' doping Tiger Woods, the rumors seem to be running somewhat of a truthful course.
"Dr. Tony Galea was arrested in October and his Toronto clinic was raided by Canadian authorities after his assistant was detained at the U.S.-Canadian border and reportedly found to be in possession of illegal drugs, including human growth hormone (hGH) and Actovegin - a drug extracted from calf's blood that has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency."

Although, steroids may be Tiger's suggested drug of choice, the valid reports include more the use of slightly 'shady' enhancements procedures to speed healing and the use of a combination of known (cross-border) illegal enhancement drugs.
"Galea flew to Woods' Windermere, Fla., home to treat the golfer earlier this year with his platelet-rich plasma injection therapy, also known as "blood spinning...
Galea has attracted a mystique in sports medicine circles for his advocacy of the process, which involves spinning blood in a centrifuge and reinjecting it into injured joints in the hope of accelerating healing."
Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/....html#ixzz0ZmbBvrTz

Source: nydailynews.com

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are expecting charges to be filed against Galea in Toronto, Canada on Friday.

For the many golfers young and old that only a few weeks ago held Tiger as a hero in their eyes, hopefully this matter of drug use, doping, and horrible publicity that has been following him around will clear itself up in some sort of positive manner.

An astronomical event: the Geminid showers

RBZ29PEN286C

Source Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiIXcMEs5jA

For the last 150 year on a cold day in mid December, stargazers warm themselves with thoughts of excitement over the arrival of an amazing "annual cosmic" event.

"Late tonight is the peak of the year's most prolific annual cosmic fireworks show—the Geminid meteor shower."

This shower is believed to have originated from the extinction of 3200 Phaethon, an ancient comet.  2009 is being considered as what could be the best year for viewing this event due to the shower's arrival so close to the new moon.

"It is, basically, the rocky skeleton of a comet that lost its ice after too many close encounters with the sun. Earth runs into a stream of debris from 3200 Phaethon every year in mid-December, causing meteors to fly from the constellation Gemini."
"The Geminids are slow meteors that create beautiful long arcs across the sky—many lasting a second or two."

Favoring observers in the Northern Hemisphere, the Geminids are expected to be most frequent within two hours of 1:10 a.m. ET in the wee hours of Monday.

The shower's radiant—the point in the sky from which the meteors appear to originate—is the constellation Gemini, which rises above the eastern horizon after 9 p.m. local time."

Hopefully the snowy skies that are covering a good majority of Canada today, can part even for a short while to uncover this evenings show of lights.

Mr. Gene Barry will be sadly missed...

Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtMoGVoSs3M

Born in 1919, as Eugene Klass of New York, Mr. Gene Barry spent his life in a fruitful world that most will never know.
"He was attending New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn when he won a singing contest and a scholarship to the Chatham Square School of Music. While studying there, he began singing on the New York radio station WHN."

Norwegian's sense snub from Obama

After a series of cancellations, Norwegian's are beginning to sense that they may be being snubbed by United States President Barack Obama.
"The White House has cancelled many of the events peace prize laureates traditionally submit to, including a dinner with the Norwegian Nobel committee, a press conference, a television interview, appearances at a children's event promoting peace and a music concert, as well as a visit to an exhibition in his honour at the Nobel peace centre."

Video Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=talNgaYrCL8

After much critisism towards the Nobel Peace Prize judges for their, some might say, short sighted election of Obama for his efforts in dealing with the war that he was thrown into- he has the audacity to cancel out on a good share of the public appearances that go along with the title.

Yes, he's the President of United States and sure he is a busy man. However, if I were given the Nobel Peace Prize it wouldn't matter if I were the President of the United States or a homeless guy sleeping under a bridge, I would do my damnest to show my utmost repects to the Norwegian people and the Nobel peace prize authorities...

The worst of all cancellations was the lunch with the King of Norway.  Good way to give a big ol' moon to the King, there Barack...

Blogger finds sensitive TSA documents, 5 placed on leave

Video Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf5alPFj-LA

Making headlines today is the blogger, the Wandering Aramean, who came across secret Transportation Security Administration documents that had been posted on their Federal website for over nine months before anyone noticed. In his website ‘the Wanderer’ is quoted saying,

“I’m not a legal scholar. I didn’t even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. But I am pretty good about spotting what appears to be a felonious act, especially when it jumps off the computer screen and smacks you right in the face. And after reading through the various non-responses from the TSA regarding this leak one bit seems to stand out more than the others. “
-The Wandering Armeana, Felonious or just stupid? Time for the TSA to pick one.

Source Article: http://www.wanderingaramean.com/2009/12/felonious-or-just-stupid-time-for-tsa.html

To the luck of this blogger, he was the ‘anyone’ that noticed… The online world is a’buzz over this discovery of these documents that was made by a blogger, the instant interest it has sparked over the internet, and the investigation it has initiated. Since the posting of the mentioned article…

“Five Transportation Security Administration employees have been placed on administrative leave since it was discovered that sensitive guidelines about airport passenger screening were posted on the Internet.”
Source: Yahoo News, http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091209/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_airport_security

May this story help in giving bloggers the credit they deserve and kudos to the Wandering Aramean!

Woman 'taken to hospital from Tiger Woods' mansion': NowPublic News

Source:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEptsfHyyXI

What is Tiger up to now? Was it another jilted mistress, did Elin have another accident with his infamous 9 Iron, or maybe a drug- related sex injury? Who are the unidentified blonde women?

"What is known is that emergency services were called to the exclusive neighbourhood of Isleworth, a suburb of Orlando, where Woods lives with his wife, Elin Nordegren, at 2.36am."

Considering the fact that Elin's mother and sister are said to be visiting, the identity of the blonde woman riding in the ambulance and the trailing SUV would by common sense be one of the two, you would thing...  But, as we have seen so far as this tigerific trail of a story things are not always as they seem.

"Earlier today, before reports of the hospital visit emerged, papers reported that Nordegren had decided to leave the marital home and separate from Woods."

In a way, I do feel bad for the man and his family.  Sadly, dirty laundy seems to become public property in  the world of fame and fortune.

December 8,2009 Update:
CBC News Nova Scotia has reported that this little boy that touched so many hearts over the weekend has passed away at "the IWK Health Centre in Halifax".  My deepest regards and blessings for the family and little James' soul.
Original Contribution:

In "the small community of South Bar", citizens are relieved that James Delorey has finally been found. The boy had reportedly walked away from his home with his dog on Saturday and when his dog returned home without him on Monday the family really began to worry.

Update...

As the story about the missing boy, James Delorey develops we now know he is safe in the care of hospital workers and his family. He is listed in critical condition, suffering from hypothermia however, may it be of some comfort to the family that at least they now know where he is.

Prayers and wishes go out to James for his speedy recovery.

Paul Maynard, spokesman for Nova Scotia's Emergency Health Services says the boy is suffering from hypothermia and is in critical condition. He was airlifted to the IWK Health Centre in Halifax on Monday afternoon for treatment.

The boy was found around 12:15 p.m. Monday, in thick brush, about 1.2 kilometres from his residence. James had been stranded without a coat, hat or mittens.

Faceless

Faceless forms graze the planet bare
Round the hours of a clock that never rests.
Ribbons of light tangle hopelessly along, One bulb teasing the next down this highway of never end.

Millions upon millions of faces, faceless they exist.
Everyday, dying in this fight to survive-
While, day by day, faces replicate and devour
More sustenance than we can find.

Faceless, we struggle wryly up this ladder of life
And faceless we fall short, to begin all over again.
Like a game of Snakes and Ladders,
Shamelessly we roll the dice again.

Poems of Time: by Jessica A. Tucker

Welcome to Daily Headlinz by Jessica A. Tucker

In late October of this year I was poking around searching for new places to post some of my articles I had been working on promoting and came across a public media site called NowPublic.  After checking the site out I realized it might be an interesting place to start writing and clean up on my reporting and article writing skills.

Interesting it has been to be say the least.  For the last month and a bit, this site and my search for new topics to report on has become what some might call a time consumer.  However, I am thoroughly enjoying the feedback from the sites members and staff and the commentaries that get started can be extremely entertaining.
In whole Daily Headlinz was born to create a home for my news articles, stories, opinion pieces, commentaries, interesting finds and strange thoughts that cross my mind and feel like sharing…
I look forward to future posts and where Daily Headlinz may mature to and I hope you as well enjoy the upcoming posts. Please check back for updates and new article additions.
Best Wishes, Jessica
